  • Lights, Camera, Action in Cornwall!

    Cornwall’s dramatic coastline and timeless villages have long attracted film and TV crews. As you explore, keep an eye out for these famous on-screen locations:

    Doc Martin – This much-loved series starring Martin Clunes was filmed largely in the colourful fishing village of Port Isaac. Fern Cottage doubles as Dr Ellingham’s surgery, while St Nonna’s Church hosted the show’s memorable wedding scenes.

    Poldark – Charlestown’s historic harbour and tall ships made it a key filming location for this hugely popular period drama. Other Cornish backdrops include Botallack’s cliff-top mines, Bodmin Moor, Porthcurno Beach and Kynance Cove.

    House of the Dragon – Cornwall has stepped firmly into the fantasy spotlight, with Holywell Bay appearing in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel as part of the dramatic world of Westeros.

    Fisherman’s Friends – This feel-good hit was filmed around Port Isaac and nearby coastal villages, celebrating Cornwall’s music, humour and strong sense of community.

  • Some Cornish food for thought!

    One thing is sure – you won’t go hungry whilst walking in Cornwall! With some of the finest seafood and an abundance of fresh local produce, Cornwall is a fantastic destination for food lovers. Here are some regional delights you can expect to find;

    The famous Cornish pasty – great fuel for walkers, made with shortcrust pastry and traditionally filled with beef, potato, swede and onion. A proper pasty should have 20 crimps along the side.

    Cornish cream tea – a perfect afternoon treat of fruit scones served with clotted cream and jam, alongside a pot of tea. In Cornwall, the cream goes on top (unlike Devon!).

    Saffron cake – a lightly spiced fruit bun made with saffron, a spice believed to have reached Cornwall via early tin traders.

    Rick Stein’s Padstow – a Cornwall institution since 1975, serving exceptional fresh fish and shellfish. Booking ahead is strongly recommended.

    Cornish Yarg – one of over 60 local cheeses, this hard cow’s milk cheese is wrapped in nettle leaves to form its distinctive rind.

    Stargazy pie – a traditional dish from Mousehole made with pilchards, eggs and potatoes, with the fish heads left poking through the pastry “stargazing” on top.

    Some Cornish food for thought!
