Why Macs Adventure Is No Longer a Certified B Corp

Why We're No Longer B Corp Certified - and What That Means

Since 2003, Macs Adventure has been built on a simple idea: travel works best when it's done thoughtfully - for the people doing it, the communities they pass through, and the places they explore.

What Is B Corp?

B Corp is an independent certification for businesses that meet certain social and environmental standards. We earned ours in 2024, and we were proud of it - it reflected the way we'd already been running the company for over 20 years. And while our values surrounding thoughtful travel have not changed, as of September 2026, we are no longer a certified B Corp, and we want to be upfront about why.

So Why Let It Go?

New EU regulations on sustainability labels come into force in September 2026, and B Corp's certification requirements changed significantly as a result. Rather than recertify under the new framework, we made a straightforward choice: to put our time and money directly into the work itself - the trails, the communities, and the local partners our trips depend on - instead of into certification.

It's not a step back from our values. It's a decision about where our effort does the most good.

What The Work Looks Like

None of this is new, and none of it stops:

On the trails

  • Trail funding - for every traveller who walks the West Highland Way, South West Coast Path or Lech River Trail with us, we contribute £5 directly to trail maintenance and preservation.
  • Path partnerships - we work with organisations like the West Highland Way Trust, which we helped achieve charitable status, to keep the routes you walk properly cared for.
  • Trash Free Trails - we partner with Trash Free Trails in the UK and Europe and build their principles into how we brief every traveller before they set off.
  • Local suppliers - we choose locally owned accommodation and partners wherever we can, keeping more of what you spend in the places you visit.

How We Run The Business

  • Volunteering - our team members volunteer with charities, community groups and environmental projects throughout the year, and we're expanding these opportunities rather than scaling them back.
  • Less paper, less plastic - we've moved to digital-first trip information through our app, reducing the printed materials we produce. Our US office runs a recycling programme covering most of the materials it uses.

What's Next

Behind the scenes, we’re continuing to develop our approach to making responsible choices across our business, with a focus on practical actions, clear priorities, and ways to measure our progress.

We’re committed to ongoing improvement and will continue to share updates on the work we’re doing, what we’ve learned, and where we still have more to do.

In a Nutshell

We're not changing who we are. The work continues - and if you've got questions, we'd genuinely like to hear them - get in touch or drop us a line at hello@macsadventure.com.
